- Patient Instructions before UGI Endoscopy
- The patient will need to stop drinking and eating up to eight hours before your endoscopy to ensure his/her stomach is empty for the procedure.
- Patient s should not have gross coagulopathy and Platelet count should be >70,000 INR <2
- Pre-procedure investigations: CBC, INR, Viral markers HBsAg, Anti HCV &HIV serology
- Be careful regarding fasting in Diabetes Mellitus patients.
- Start IV fluids if not contraindicated

Diagnostic EGD include
- Dyspepsia unresponsive to medical therapy
- or associated with systemic signs,
- dysphagia or odynophagia,
- persistent gastroesophageal reflux symptoms,
- occult gastrointestinal bleeding, and
- surveillance for malignancy.
- Therapeutic upper endoscopy
- acute gastrointestinal bleeding,
- foreign body removal and
- stricture dilatation.
